Superintendent of Schools Christine Rath has served as a school administrator in the Concord School District since 1985, when she was selected to be the principal of Rundlett Junior High School. Rath served at Rundlett for six years, from 1985-1991. In 1991, Rath was selected to be the principal at Concord High School where she served until 1997. During this time at Concord High School, Rath oversaw the renovation and expansion of the high school. In 1997, Rath moved to Central Office as Assistant Superintendent of Schools with Superintendent Curt Sokness. In July 2000, Rath was asked to serve as interim Superintendent of School while the Board conducted a national search for a new Superintendent. In December 2000, Rath was selected to be the Superintendent of Concord Schools.
Rath attended Trinity College in Washington D.C., graduating with a bachelor degree in psychology in 1968. Following graduation, Rath was accepted as an intern in the Urban Teaching Corps, a teacher training program for the District of Columbia Public Schools, modeled on the National Teacher Corps. Rath served as an intern math teacher at Terrell Junior High School in downtown Washington for one year and was then assigned to teach math at Evans Junior HIgh School in the district where she remained for two years. While teaching in the district, Rath earned her Masters in Human Development at the Institute of Child Study at the University of Maryland. Marriage to Tom Rath, a graduate of Dartmouth College and Georgetown Law School, took Rath to Trenton, New Jersey public schools in 1971 while her husband completed a clerkship in Trenton and Newark, New Jersey. In 1972, the Raths moved to Concord New Hampshire, where Tom accepted a position in the Attorney General's office in Concord, under Attorney General Warren Rudman and Assistant Attorney General David Souter. Chris Rath accepted a position as junior high school math teacher in Goffstown, New Hampshire. Following the birth of her twins in 1975, Rath began teaching part time in the adult education program at Second Start, a non-profit organization dedicated to adult learning. During the nine years Rath taught at Second Start, she helped organize an alternative school for students in local high schools who were close to dropping out of school but were too young to take the GED test. The program remains a very important component of the education community in Concord. In 1989, Rath was awarded a doctorate in education at Boston University, where she focused on school administration and special education. Rath has served as a board member of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, founding member of Task Force Against Racism in Concord, member of the Board of Governors of New Hampshire Public Television, serving one year as Chair of the Board, and is currently secretary of the Board of Governors for New Futures, an organization dedicated to increasing access to treatment for alcohol and other drug addiction for adolescents. |

Marriage to Tom Rath took Rath to Trenton, New Jersey public schools in 1971 while her husband completed a clerkship. In 1972, the Raths moved to Concord, where Tom served in the AG's office under AG Warren Rudman and Assistant AG David Souter. Rath's twins Tim and Erin attended both Rundlett Junior High School and Concord High School while their mother was principal. |
